Why every Kenyan business needs automatic backups

16 October 2026 · 1 min read

A crashed server, a stolen laptop or a ransomware attack can wipe out years of records in minutes. Here is how automatic backups protect your business.

Most businesses only think about backups after something goes wrong. A hard disk fails, a laptop is stolen, a staff member deletes the wrong folder, or ransomware locks every file in the office. By then it is too late.

What a good backup looks like

A reliable backup has three qualities:

  • Automatic. It runs on a schedule without anyone remembering to do it.
  • Complete. It includes both your files and your database, so the whole system can be rebuilt.
  • Off-site. A copy is kept somewhere other than the server, for example sent to a backup email address.

How iTach systems handle backups

Every system we build includes a backup portal. From the admin area you can create a full backup of files and database with one click, restore from any backup, and set automatic backups to run daily, weekly or monthly. Each scheduled backup is emailed to the backup address you choose, so you always have a copy outside the server.

A simple checklist

  1. Turn on scheduled backups (weekly at minimum, daily for busy systems).
  2. Use a dedicated backup email address that only managers can access.
  3. Test a restore at least once a quarter.
  4. Keep at least 10 recent backups.

If your current system does not do this, talk to us. We can add a backup portal or move you to one of our systems.
